NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Derek Carr sounded determined not to dwell on any dysfunction evident within the Saints’ offense after New Orleans overcame three shaky quarters and did enough to defeat the team with the NFL’s worst record.Carr returned from a recent concussion and upper body injuries to throw late touchdown passes to Chris Olave and Jimmy Graham, and the Saints beat the hapless Carolina Panthers 28-6 on Sunday to pull back into a tie atop the feeble NFC South.“I’m not trying to be negative,” Carr said when asked about a heated exchange with center Erik McCoy following a sack on a third-and-2 play. “There really is nothing wrong,” Carr added. “We had a moment. I’ve had some of those moments in my 10 years a lot of times, with a coach, with a teammate, somebody. You always circle back and make it right and keep going.”McCoy said he wanted to offer a “public apology” for his “public disagreement” with Carr, and asserted that he and his QB remaine...

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Aneesah Morrow had 27 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 7 LSU women shook off some early lethargic play in an 83-53 win over UL-Lafayette on Sunday.Morrow and Angel Reese combined for 22 points in the Tigers’ 28-9 third-quarter run to break free from a halftime tie.“My goal is to get a double-double every night,” said Morrow, who had 53 double-doubles in 53 career games at DePaul the last two seasons before transferring to LSU. “I’m a double-double machine, and I’ve been that since my freshman year. I try to stay as consistent as I possibly can.”Reese finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Mikaylah Williams added 18 points and 11 rebounds, hitting all four of the Tigers’ 3-pointers.It was LSU’s first game in 10 days after taking a break for final exams. The Tigers (9-1) looked sloppy and out of sync for the entire first half and had to rally for a tie at the break.Displeased LSU coach Kim Mulkey yanked four of her five starters after the game’s first two min...

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been ruled out of Los Angeles’ game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday due to a finger injury that occurred late in the second quarter. The only other quarterback on the Chargers’ roster is Easton Stick, who had played two NFL snaps in five seasons with Los Angeles before he replaced the Bolts’ franchise quarterback against Denver. The Chargers trailed 10-0 at halftime.Herbert was 9 of 17 for 96 yards with an interception before being injured, apparently while he was taken down awkwardly by Denver’s Zach Allen after throwing a pass. Herbert had been sacked four times and hit six times during the Chargers’ first six possessions, with his teammates repeatedly missing their blocks against Denver’s pass rushers.Herbert, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft, has been famously durable in his career. He fractured the middle finger on his left hand late in the third quarter of a game aga...

Aidan Hutchinson makes a pair of glaring mistakes as the Lions’ defense struggles again

CHICAGO (AP) — Aidan Hutchinson was a big factor as the Detroit Lions jumped out to a fast start this season. That seems like a long time ago at the moment — for Hutchinson and the rest of Detroit’s slumping defense. The NFC North-leading Lions surrendered 18 unanswered points in the second half of a 28-13 loss to the last-place Chicago Bears on Sunday. Hutchinson jumped offside on a key play at the end of the third quarter, and then played a role in another Bears touchdown early in the fourth.Once a trendy Super Bowl pick, Detroit (9-4) dropped to 4-3 in its last seven games. It has allowed 28.7 points per game during the tough stretch.“I feel like we kind of lost our swagger and our confidence,” said defensive end John Cominsky, who had one of Detroit’s three sacks against Chicago. “When we played with that swagger and that confidence and guys are loose, I think that’s when we were playing our best ball.“So that’s got to be a point of emphasis, to have ...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson overcame a sluggish start, some big hits and a week of criticism and controversy by responding with the type of impressive performance the New York Jets have long been expecting.Wilson threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes in his return from a two-game benching, New York shut down C.J. Stroud before Houston’s star rookie quarterback left late with a concussion and the Jets ended a five-game losing streak with a 30-6 victory over the Texans on Sunday.“Winning is always fun and that’s what we want right there,” Wilson said. “That’s what we want every game to look like.”Wilson was 27 of 36 for 301 yards — his third career game of 300 or more yards — after sitting in favor of the since-waived Tim Boyle. And that came despite Wilson facing consistent pressure all game and being sacked four times.“The second half, I thought Zach probably played the best game of his career,” coach Robert Saleh said. “I thought he was outstan...

As Israel continues its aerial assault in Gaza, many in South Florida are raising their voices in support in a different fashion. An installation on display at Art Basel this weekend served as inspiration for another type of message. In front of a globe — a representation of the world — inside the Miami Beach Convention Center, organizers on Sunday staged what they called a pro-Israel flash mob.“Each individual bought a ticket, just like any other participant in Art Basel,” said organizer Karin Lang, “so they were observing the art, they were participating in the exhibition, and so, it wasn’t a group entrance and a group effort that came in to storm Art Basel.”The bloody terror attacks of Oct. 7 keep having an impact around the globe. For many, the fact that Hamas terrorists ambushed hundreds of people attending a concert was especially heartbreaking.“They took out a horrific attack on a music festival that was a festival for peace,̶...
