SANTA CLARA — Freed from the weight of expectations and given carte blanche to simply read and react, 49ers defensive end Clelin Ferrell goes back to Las Vegas this week without a tinge of bitterness or regret.“I think my time with the Raiders was a blessing,” Ferrell said Monday following practice. “I can live and be happy with what happened.”Ferrell, 26, was a controversial No. 4 overall pick out of Clemson by the Oakland Raiders in 2019. As the Ted Hendricks Award winner as the top defensive end in college football in 2018 and with a national championship on his resume, Ferrell was a decorated college player. His selection was mostly panned, though, by draft analysts who didn’t think believe he was worth being selected No. 4 after Kyler Murray (Arizona), Nick Bosa (49ers) and Quinnen Williams (New York Jets). Most projections had Ferrell as a first-round pick, but somewhere in the middle or late in the round.Murray and Williams have both signed m...High school football 2023 preview: BVAL Mt. Mikael Granlund and Jan Rutta figured big changes were in store for the Pittsburgh Penguins this offseason — especially after they missed the playoffs in April.Sure enough, general manager Ron Hextall and director of hockey operations Brian Burke were fired one day after the end of the regular season, and new top hockey executive Kyle Dubas was hired in June hoping to give superstar center Sidney Crosby another realistic shot at a Stanley Cup.“The organization in Pittsburgh, the success they’ve had over the years, you could see something was up and something was going to happen,” Granlund said. “It’s just part of the business.”“They have new people managing the team now, so obviously, they want to have their imprint,” Rutta said. “They made a lot of changes, and to be honest, I was expecting that.”One of those major changes came Sunday, as the Penguins, Sharks, and Montreal Canadiens came together for one of the offseason’s biggest trades.San Jose traded Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh,...Los Gatos tests if parental accountability can prevent teen alcohol use

Los Gatos made headlines in 2020 when “Party Mom” Shannon O’Connor was arrested for hosting alcohol-filled parties for her teenage son and his friends. While her trial is ongoing, the town of Los Gatos has made efforts to prevent underage drinking – and its consequences – through a social host ordinance that fines adults for parties at their house where underage youth have access to alcohol, whether the parents are present or not.In the year since it was put into effect, there have been at least three social host violations in Los Gatos. And while addressing teen drinking takes a multipronged approach, parents can play a big role in how their teens think about alcohol.Holding parents accountableThere’s a misconception among parents that teenagers are going to drink no matter what, and they’d rather have them do it under their own roof with supervision, says Linda Richter, senior vice president of prevention research and analysis for the Partnership to End Addiction.“And there’s...‘Let’s Make a Deal’ host Wayne Brady comes out as pansexual
