CLEVELAND (AP) — Nick Chubb’s season-ending injury didn’t crush the Cleveland Browns. For one day, they looked even stronger.Myles Garrett sacked Ryan Tannehill 3 1/2 times and fronted a swarming defense that limited Tennessee to a record-low 94 yards as the Browns rolled to a 27-3 win over the Titans on Sunday.Six days after the Browns (2-1) were gutted by seeing Chubb, the heart and soul of the team, carted off in tears with a severe knee injury at Pittsburgh, Garrett and Cleveland’s defense stepped up with a dominant performance that overwhelmed the Titans (1-2).The Browns’ offense did its part as well, with Deshaun Watson bouncing back from two subpar performances to start the season with his best day since signing with Cleveland. Watson completed 27 of 33 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, his 43-yarder to Amari Cooper putting the Browns up 27-3 in the fourth quarter. Other than an ill-advised pitch while being harassed, Watson was on target.“That’s...

(NEXSTAR) — During the warmer months, you may have found yourself out to eat. Maybe you even sat on the patio, enjoying the warm moments before they faded into the chill of winter. There is also a pretty good chance you had a cold drink in hand, according to a new report. Toast, a restaurant point of sale and management system, recently reviewed customer trends across its roughly 93,000 U.S. restaurants, including people's alcohol-purchasing behaviors.  Top spots to drink local hard cider around Denver Overall, Toast found that if a customer was ordering alcohol, it was most likely going to be beer, which ranked as the most popular adult beverage being ordered in all 50 states during the second quarter of 2023. While you may guess a state like Wisconsin, which is home to the most self-reported excessive drinkers and a history in the beer industry, would be ordering beer the most, but it was actually their neighbors to the west. Rain slowly moves out Monday

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:21:18 GMT

The remnants of Ophelia will continue to effect New England on Monday, but aren’t expected to stick around for the whole day. The storm’s center will pass south of Long Island, producing another round of showers overnight tonight and through Monday morning. It’ll be a bit windy as well, with gusts upwards of 30mph in spots along the coast, upwards of 20mph inland. By Monday afternoon, a high pressure system from southern Canada will begin to force the storm out to sea, allowing sunshine to take over for parts of the area. Southern New Hampshire will see sunshine first, and it should reach Boston by early afternoon. It takes a bit longer for the South Shore but showers are expected to linger for the Cape and Islands through early evening. Behind Ophelia’s remnants, a prolonged dry stretch is in the forecast, along with some seasonable September weather.

Callahan: Beating the Jets buys the Patriots time, but little else

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Only by the grace of Zach Wilson, the NFL’s most putrid passer and generous opponent, are the Patriots 1-2.The Pats won Sunday because they knew two things about Wilson: an early lead and killing clock is all you need. The kid will handle the rest. This is what a thoroughly defanged Pats-Jets rivalry has devolved to: both teams working around their quarterbacks, asking them to screw up less than the other guy.Mac Jones completed barely half his passes Sunday and failed to close the Jets out on three separate drives inside the last three minutes. But at least he didn’t take a safety, like Wilson did. Or throw for zero yards on fourth-and-10, like Wilson did. Or lead a 1-for-8 showing on third down, like Wilson did.To review…Trailing 13-10, Wilson cushioned the Pats’ lead by taking an unforgivable sack inside the end zone with 2:19 to play. Jones went three-and-out on the next series, giving Wilson a second chance just inside the 2-...

Top Dems declare deal on tax relief

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:21:18 GMT

Top House and Senate Democrats have reached an agreement on a tax relief bill, and plan to send it to Gov. Maura Healey this week as an opening act for their fall session. The accord, announced without details in a two-sentence statement last last week, could bring to end a debate that began nearly two years ago in an effort to put a dent in the state’s high cost of living and make Massachusetts more competitive for residents and businesses. In July, legislators broke for a summer recess without a deal on tax relief, instead allotting $581 million to cover tax relief impacts in fiscal year 2024. The final package’s value could exceed $1 billion in the out years, or come in lower depending on which relief measures are swept into the consensus bill.Competing House and Senate tax relief bills died in 2022 when the Legislature was blindsided as surging revenue collections required the state to give back about $3 billion in tax collections under a decades-old voter law. (AP) — Authorities rescued a 17-year-old boy in Southern California after he was kidnapped and held hostage for four days by captors who threatened to harm him if his family did not pay a $500,000 ransom. The teen was rescued Friday after law enforcement tracked him and his three kidnappers to a motel in Santa Maria, a city about 140 miles (225 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The nightmare began Monday morning, when the kidnappers caused a car crash in San Bernardino County, roughly 200 miles (320 kilometers) from Sant Maria, and abducted the teen when he got out of his vehicle to look at the damage, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. A doorbell camera recorded the kidnapping. The kidnappers called the teen’s mother from a Mexican phone number and demanded $500,000, saying it should be delivered to Nogales, Mexico, federal prosecutors said. The men repeatedly called her over the four days and threatening to harm her s...
