Samaje Perine wasn’t aware of Melvin Gordon’s remarks, but when told of them, he couldn’t disagree.Gordon recently opined that running backs, if capable, should switch positions. In his opinion, the compensation wasn’t worth the physical toll of prying through the trenches.“I don’t blame him just because you look around the league and see how the running back group as a whole is being treated,” said Perine, who left the Cincinnati Bengals for the Broncos this past offseason.“At the end of the day, being in it, (I know) how valuable we actually are,” he said. That doesn’t mean he disagreed with Gordon’s sentiment.“I just know with my son, I’m not going to push him to play sports period,” he said. “But if he wants to play football, I’ll try to (steer him away from running back).”Perine might be squeamish about the health of his position in general, but his love for his role hasn’t waned. He said the last time he played anything other than running back was in middle sc...Elias: Basing Californians’ electricity rates on income unworkable

There were two Indian Americans on the GOP debate stage in Milwaukee last week. This is not as unusual as it sounds. Three European prime ministers — of Portugal, Ireland, and the U.K. — are of Indian descent. Indians in the West set off few alarm bells among most white voters: They are not associated with religious extremism, or geopolitical rivalry, or identity politics.Indian Americans lead multiple large U.S. companies as well; notably, there are far fewer Chinese-American CEOs. We pride ourselves on being the model for all other model minorities. There’s success, though, and then there is emulating success. Should we be surprised when one of our tribe excels at the latter, too?And that brings us to the 38-year-old entrepreneur and GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, which is what you get when you let being a model minority define who you are.Ramaswamy’s anti-woke opinions are, I suspect, genuine and deeply held. I can see how they could emerge organically from his backgr...Leubsdorf: Vice President Harris finding her political bearings

The campaign to rehabilitate Vice President Kamala Harris’ image is well under way, suggesting the Democrats have finally recognized the potential problem her low public standing poses for President Joe Biden’s re-election.“Why Vice President Harris Is Invaluable for 2024,” headlined a nine-page memo from Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and Becca Siegel, the campaign’s chief data operative. Serving as the administration’s spokesperson on abortion, gun control and racial issues suits her a lot better than her initial assignment on immigratio...Latest news
