The Avalanche’s bid to defend the Stanley Cup came to an end Sunday with Colorado losing 2-1 to the Kraken at Ball Arena. This was the 13th time that the Avs have faced a Game 7 since the franchise moved to Denver in 1995. In those games, Colorado has gone 4-9, which includes a win over the New Jersey Devils to win the Stanley Cup in 2001. Here’s a look at those games:May 4, 1998: Oilers 4, Avalanche 0 — first round“Not even a 3-1 lead in a best-of-seven series with the Edmonton Oilers was enough for the Avalanche. … Hockey is a game of passion, and the Avs just didn’t have enough of it, Roy said.”June 4, 1999: Stars 4, Avalanche 1 — third round“In a game from which the winner advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals, the record also will show it was the Dallas Stars who prevailed, 4-1 over the Avs at rocking Reunion Arena. ‘Was the season a success? No, we didn’t win the Stanley Cup,’ said Avs captain Joe Sakic.”May 27, 2000: Stars 3, Avalanche 2 — third round“Not ...Isaiah Padilla, Denver North aim for state tournament berth and more Denver Prep League baseball players to watch

Denver North walked through fire in non-league play, with the belief that adversity can help the Vikings earn a long-awaited state tournament berth next month. The Vikings were 2-7 in non-league this spring, but have turned it on in the Denver Prep League, where they are off to an 8-0 start after beating Denver East 6-4 on Saturday afternoon. If star senior first baseman Isaiah Padilla and his teammates have anything to say about it, the hot start in the Denver Prep League is foreshadowing greater things to come. Denver North’s goal is to make its first state tournament appearance since 1977, when the Vikings won the Class 3A title to pair with their 2A crown in 1953.“We were competitive in most non-league games, but there were a couple where we just didn’t show up,” 16th-year North head coach Ernesto Marquez said. “But it’s all for the better in the long run. Our two goals were set at the beginning of the year: league championship and state champio...Editorial: We are not ready to give up on single-family zoning yet

Colorado lawmakers’ attempt to completely overhaul planning and zoning in almost every municipality across this state with a single piece of legislation was ambitious, drastic, and rushed. We can think of nothing this session that would have affected the lives of home-owning Coloradans more than the original proposal in The Land Use bill to eliminate single-family-only zoning across the state in favor of more density. And sadly, we are not convinced by the data that it would have made housing any more affordable for those who are still struggling to buy.Gov. Jared Polis, Rep. Iman Jodeh, Rep. Steven Woodrow, and Sen. Dominick Moreno are trying to end the housing crisis in one fell swoop with a change that is unlikely to ever come from city councils and county commissions.Turning Senate Bill 213 into a study of zoning changes is the right decision, and we hope the refined “upzoning” portion of the bill – a requirement that land near transit corridors be zoned to allow the construction...Sale closed in Los Gatos: $1.9 million for a three-bedroom home

Though many are taking a breath after tax season, Maryland officials advise to look out for red flags if you worked with an accountant or tax preparer.Maryland State Comptroller Brooke Lieberman told WTOP’s Mike Murillo that her department is on the lookout for tax preparers who file fraudulent returns, often targeting those who are more vulnerable.“We see that there are tax preparers who are taking advantage of people with lower incomes, sometimes people who … English is not their first language, and overcharging them or submitting filings that are fraudulent,” she said.“We do not regulate the tax preparers in the state of Maryland, but we are able to flag those [fraudulent] preparers for taxpayers to know … And then we’re able to block access to electronic filing for those preparers as well,” she said. For example, Lieberman said, when clients agree to pay for their filing using their expected refund, fraudulent preparers will sometimes manipulat...Affiliated Managers: Q1 Earnings Snapshot
