Congressman Ken Buck weighs in on debt ceiling debate

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:38:01 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) — Congress has about a month to come up with a plan for the country’s debt before a potential default. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen notified lawmakers on Monday that a default could happen as early as June 1 if legislators do not raise or suspend the nation’s borrowing authority before then. U.S. Rep. Ken Buck voted against House Republicans' plan to cut spending while raising the debt ceiling. The Front Range Republican argues the measure "does not do enough to rein in the federal government’s reckless spending." Property tax hike: What’s the solution? The measure was narrowly approved in the House of Representatives as Democratic and Republican leaders prepare to sit down with President Joe Biden about the debt ceiling next week. Buck talks about his stance on the debt limit and possible solutions he would support on "Colorado Point of View" this week. Buck suggests raising the retirement ageDespite never voting to suspend or expand the nation’s debt limit, Buck...

Karen Read defense: Problematic investigation into John O’Keefe death grabs federal attention

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:38:01 GMT

Among the many fireworks at the most recent hearing in the case of Karen Read, charged with killing her boyfriend John O’Keefe last year, is the defense’s claim that the investigation is so troubled that the federal government has opened up a case to look into it.“It’s been reported that federal authorities have now gotten involved in the circumstances surrounding this case and have impaneled a grand jury, federal grand jury, to investigate some of these circumstances,” defense attorney Alan Jackson said in Norfolk Superior Court Wednesday afternoon.“But Karen Read should not have to wait for the feds to figure out which heads should roll.”A day later, the feds didn’t have much to say to clarify the matter. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said: “We do not confirm or deny investigations.” The FBI had the same answer, “as a matter of longstanding policy.”The case has brought about significant public attention — from both sides — which filled the second-f...

‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’ a Marvel-ous winner

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:38:01 GMT

MOVIE REVIEW“Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3”Rated PG-13. At the AMC Boston Common, AMC South Bay and suburban theaters.Grade: A-When that first “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014) film hit our shores, it was a cyclonic breath of fresh air after nine previous Marvel films. The incredibly popular Marvel superhero films had become turgid, repetitive bores. Superheroes destroyed cities, often in dark, ugly 3D, gathered together to whine and moan and then destroyed more cities before finally saving the world. But the “Guardians” were something else entirely. Peter Quill aka “Star-Lord” was a wise-cracking, mischievous, rebellious boy-man kidnapped from Earth when he was a child. His mother was dead. He missed his beloved grandfather. Peter was another Peter Pan and all the villains were versions of Captain Hook. Plus, he had the Awesome Love Mixtape Vol. 1 that his mother had made. This was a stroke of genius on the part of Troma Studios graduate, rock and roller and writer-director James G...

Celtics’ Grant Williams proves ready for bigger role with Joel Embiid back for 76ers

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:38:01 GMT

When Grant Williams checked into Wednesday’s Game 2 with 5:09 left in the first quarter, Joel Embiid was heading to the bench at the same time. But when Embiid returned with 1:05 to go, Williams had a message for the 76ers star and newly-minted NBA MVP.“For me, it’s just a matter of trying to make them work,” the Celtics forward said. “That’s what I basically said to him. I’m here to make you frustrated and continue to make this hard for you every single night.”Williams backed up his word. He didn’t give Embiid an inch of space, pressing up against the big man – who hovered over him by about six inches – like an irritant, though that backfired on their first play matched up together. Embiid caught a pass at the top of the key and when he felt a slight bump from Williams, exaggerated the contact and went crashing to the floor. Williams was whistled for a foul and stood there for a moment in some disbelief. But that play was an outlier for Williams, who had his best o...
