PHILADELPHIA — How’s that for an introduction? His signing only made official hours before first pitch Wednesday, the Giants’ newly inked shortstop, Paul DeJong, just might have a statue outside Oracle Park by the time the Giants’ charter flight touches back down in the Bay Area this evening. After Camilo Doval blew his second save in as many days, DeJong delivered a two-RBI knock in the top of the 10th, saving the day and salvaging an 8-6 win in the finale of San Francisco’s series against the wild card-leading Phillies. It was DeJong’s third hit of game to go with a two-run homer that, for much of the afternoon, looked to be decisive.Just moments earlier, Doval plodded back to the dugout, down the steps and into the clubhouse as Jakob Junis jogged across the outfield grass and the 33,035 on hand erupted into pandemonium, watching their team erase a deficit for the third time in as many games this series. After taking heat for solely relying on his heater...Images released of person of interest in Oakland fatal shooting

None of this would be easy if we have to include a plane ticket for the East Coast or Midwest if Cal or Stanford were scheduled for away games in one of the other proposed conferences.Hopefully, Mr. Matthews’ thoughts will sink in well in the minds of other West Coast college and university administrators and athletic directors. CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona has already scheduled shoulder replacement surgery and plans on having a pair of hernia operations at the end of this season. The 64-year-old knows his recovery period will be lengthy, and spending another year in the dugout is not conducive to making it a smooth process.Francona, however, isn’t quite ready to announce his retirement after 11 seasons with the franchise.“I need to go get healthy for my life, and this lifestyle is just too difficult,” Francona said Wednesday. “I also know how I feel about doing the job a certain way, and I don’t think I can necessarily do that anymore.
