AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Closing arguments were set for Friday in Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial that has pushed the embattled Republican to the brink of removal over charges of corruption and bribery. The historic proceedings are speeding to an end as Paxton, shadowed for years by scandal and criminal charges, faces a defining test of political durability after an impeachment driven by his fellow Republicans that has widened party fractures in America’s biggest red state. A verdict from the Texas Senate could arrive as soon as Friday.The closing arguments are the last chance for impeachment managers, led by the Texas House of Representatives, to make their case that Paxton is unfit for office over allegations he abused his power in an effort to protect a political donor who was under FBI investigation. That tragic day started out as a typical school day for 12-year-old Yahshua Robinson. The bodies of two men who disappeared into the water after a tubing accident in Lake Perris Wednesday afternoon have been recovered. One body was pulled from the water around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, while the other was recovered around 5 p.m. California State Parks dispatchers received a distress call around 4 p.m. Wednesday reporting an accident in the boating zone just north of Alessandro Island. The person who called in the report told responders a man was tubing behind their boat when he fell into the water and could not swim back to the tube. Another man, who was a passenger on the boat, then jumped into the water to attempt to rescue the tuber and also began to struggle. Both men went under the water in distress and did not surface, a State Parks official confirmed. (KRON) -- A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office deputy found 23 pounds of methamphetamine in a car in Sonoma, SCSO said on Facebook. More drugs were found after deputies searched the suspect's home.The deputy initiated the traffic stop near Stage Gulch Road and Watmaugh Road at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday. The deputy "noticed several things that suggested the driver was involved in criminal activity," police said.
