SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Primary elections for many municipal offices are happening on June 27. One of the races is for the city of Schenectady. Democrat mayor Gary McCarthy is trying to win a fourth term and he's facing a challenge from city councilmember Marion Porterfield.McCarthy has overseen the revitalization of downtown Schenectady as well as development around Rivers Casino. While he celebrates those accomplishment, he admits the city does have levels of inequity and issues with poverty that leaders have to deal with.One of those issues is housing. The mayor says Schenectady has increased home ownership the last few years but absent landlords continue to plague the city. "We are systematically going after those', said McCarthy. ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- It's been almost one year since the Dobbs decision - giving states the ability to choose their own abortion laws. Since then, the state allocated $35 million for abortion providers and on Friday, the Governor signed a new piece of legislation to expanding abortion access. "Our own providers, our own New York providers are threatened by other states, governors, law-enforcement officials, this is New York, we don’t respond well to threats," said Hochul at a press event on Friday. CHATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance locating a missing Washington County man. Darrell Dutcher, 42, of Salem, NY, may be suffering from a medical emergency. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Governor Kathy Hochul vowing New York would be a safe haven for New Yorkers and those from other states seeking abortion services.The governor last year allocated $35 million dollars for abortion service providers, and in two consecutive sessions, the state legislature passed legislation that would amend the state constitution to enshrine protections for pregnancy outcomes.State lawmakers believe this would give the state a better legal argument in court if the federal government were to ever create a federal abortion ban. ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. -- The family of a Sedalia, Missouri, man who disappeared more than 40 years ago finally has at least one answer.The Rock Springs, Wyoming, Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that human remains found in 1982, are those of Jack Clawson.Investigators said new forensic technology and advancements allowed them to put an identity to the remains.The sheriff's office said Clawson visited family members in Fremont, California, in July 1981. He left to return home to Sedalia, but no one heard from him again. Denver police on Friday arrested a third individual in connection with a shooting that left 10 injured amidst a Denver Nuggets’ championship celebration in Lower Downtown.Kenneth Blakely, 24, is being held on investigation of attempted first-degree murder, police announced Friday afternoon on Twitter. The Denver district attorney will file formal charges.Police previously arrested two individuals — Ricardo Vazquez and Raoul Jones — in connection with the horrifying June 13 shooting near 20th and Market streets that investigators said may be connected to a drug deal. A 77-year-old California woman died after experiencing trouble while snorkeling in Kauai this week, becoming the second Californian to lose their life at the popular Hawaiian island this month, officials said.Judith Bailey was pulled from the water at Poipu Beach Park on Monday when, according to Kauai Police, lifeguards saw her in distress in a lagoon area.She was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived, but she later passed away at Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue, police said.
