(KRON) -- Normally, the Truckee River Rafting Company starts welcoming visitors on Memorial Day, but not this year. River rafting on a section of the river might be shut down for the entire summer season.Despite a historic wet winter, the 5-mile stretch of weaving water from Tahoe City to River Ranch Road is currently at low levels. "It is a complicated system. Because of the snowpack, the water master can't release water from Tahoe because it can lead to flooding downstream,” said Sydney Courcier, Truckee River Rafting Company manager. She said the rafting season should be in full swing by now, operating about 100 to 200 rafts a day. “We are really sad about it all, but we are happy about the amount of water, and it is good for everything,” said Courcier. 3 dead, 2 injured after crime spree in San Jose, Milpitas; suspect arrested She said they typically hire 70 workers for the season that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. NYON, Switzerland (AP) — José Mourinho was charged by UEFA on Friday after being filmed aggressively cursing at the English match referee in a stadium garage after the Europa League final.UEFA said the Roma coach is charged for “insulting / abusive language against a match official” after Sevilla’s victory in Budapest this week.It was one of a slew of disciplinary charges UEFA opened into incidents at a testy, bad-tempered game that lasted more than three hours on Wednesday.Footage circulated Thursday of Mourinho approaching referee Anthony Taylor in the garage and calling him a “disgrace” with an expletive.Later Thursday, Taylor and his family were harassed and verbally abused by Roma fans at the airport in Budapest. The potential link between the two films likely means Mourinho will get a more severe sanction than the minimum two-game touchline ban demanded by UEFA disciplinary rules for “insulting or directing abusive language at a match official.”Roma lost to Sevilla in a penalty...Miami judge sentences Haitian-Chilean businessman to life in prison in 2021 assassination of Haiti’s president

He backs up, he drives off,” said Kemp. After that, Kemp said the driver sped down the neighborhood until he eventually smashed into the entrance of the apartment complex. “I see his lights just driving crazy down the street, driving down crazy. I said ‘Damm that’s him right there”. I see the tail lights just go up in the air and flip,” said Kemp. He said he wanted to make sure the driver was alive and called 911. T...‘Mongolian Rhapsody’? Handwritten lyrics suggest Freddie Mercury considered alternative title

(CNN) — Never-before-seen draft lyrics of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” suggest that Freddie Mercury considered giving his mock-opera anthem a somewhat different title: “Mongolian Rhapsody.”The discovery was made following the emergence of a 15-page folio of lyrics, vocal lines and harmonies handwritten by the singer as he composed his 1975 hit. Near the top of an introductory page, Mercury appears to have crossed out the word “Mongolian” before replacing it with the now-famous “Bohemian.”The draft lyrics reveal other ideas that were seemingly abandoned or reworked, including alternate lines such as, “Time for good-byes now, is this reality.”Elsewhere, an unfamiliar version of the verse beginning “Mama, just killed a man,” instead reads “Mama, there’s a war began; I’ve got to leave tonight.” Another page features a messy profusion of words and phrases, some of which went on to appear in the final song, including “Galileo,” “Bismillah” and “Fandango” (while others like “Matador” and “B...Car fire causes closure on I-75 near Glades Road

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge overseeing the First Amendment lawsuit that Walt Disney Parks filed against Gov. Ron DeSantis and others is disqualifying himself, but not because of bias claims made by the Florida governor.Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker said in a court filing Thursday that it was because a relative owns 30 shares of Disney stock. Walker described the person as “a third-degree relative,” which typically means a cousin, a great-aunt or great-uncle, or a great-niece or great-nephew.The governor’s lawyers had filed a motion to disqualify Walker last month because he had referenced the ongoing dispute between the DeSantis administration and Disney during hearings in two unrelated lawsuits before him dealing with free speech issues and fear of retaliation for violating new laws championed by the governor and Republican lawmakers.Disney had opposed the governor’s motion, saying the judge had shown no bias. The judge on Thursday called DeSantis’...Netflix shareholders reject sky-high executive pay packages

New York (CNN) — Netflix shareholders voted on Thursday to reject multi-million dollar pay packages for the company’s top executives including for co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters. The vote, which is non-binding, comes amid a strong bounceback for a company that lost more than half its value in 2022 as people started to venture out after years of pandemic isolation. Last year, consumers turned their back on price increases for streaming services like Netflix, and investors began to criticize the company for paying through the nose for content while customers were leaving. But Netflix’s stock has rebounded 36% so far this year as shareholders believe the streaming sell-off may have been overdone.Still, the vote took place just days after the Writers Guild of America encouraged investors to vote the packages down, saying in a letter that a vote would be inappropriate as Hollywood writers enter their fifth week of striking for better working conditions and larger contracts.“Whi...Latest news
