A perfect weekend in Telluride

“This view is, like, killer,” I overheard a 20-something say to his companions during a recent visit to Telluride. We had just walked by each other on the main street of this southwestern Colorado mountain town, wedged into a box canyon. The group was looking toward the vertiginous cliffs high above, where Ingram Falls plunged over a notch in the rock; below the falls, a thread of water followed a steep, diagonal runnel, glinting silver, like the precious metal miners once sought here. The comment was an understatement. Surrounded by soaring peaks in the craggy San Juan Mountains, Telluride sits in an almost impossibly beautiful setting. I’ve been visiting regularly from my home near Aspen, Colorado, for almost 30 years, and every time I drive the final stretch into town, my breath catches when the lofty panorama bursts into view.Well known for its ski resort, Telluride attracts plenty of summer and fall visitors, too. A season-long slate of weekend festivals ranges from bluegrass to...Colorado victims of childhood sex abuse, blocked by state Supreme Court, hold out hope for future chance at justice

One afternoon last month, Miranda and Jennifer Wetzler answered a call from their attorney in shock: The Colorado Supreme Court had blocked the sisters’ chance to right a decades-old wrong after their alleged abuser had walked free more than 30 years earlier.“When I heard the news, I started crying and I just thought, ‘Not again,’” Miranda Wetzler said. “I thought maybe this time we could get the justice we deserved.”Colorado’s Child Sexual Abuse Accountability Act, which took effect Jan.1, 2022, provided a three-year window for adults who were sexually assaulted as children to bring forward lawsuits over abuse they allege happened between 1960 and 2022, even if the statute of limitations for criminal charges had long since expired. The Wetzler sisters were preparing to file a lawsuit under the act when a unanimous decision by the state’s high court on June 20 struck down the law as a violation of the Colorado Constitution’s prohibition on retrospective legislation....The Big Eat, Mexican mole heaven, Cheesman Park calling, and more things to do in Denver this week

Dying younger. Living harder. Going broke. It is difficult to overstate the longitudinal effects of excess weight in America. An estimated seven in 10 Americans are overweight or obese. The combination, according to the National Institutes of Health, results in an estimated 300,000 preventable deaths per year with extreme obesity lowering life expectancy by 14 years on average.Added weight not only makes everyday life more difficult, but it also produces serious health consequences that include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders and cancer. SANTA CLARA – One-on-one combat between Trent Williams and Nick Bosa is typically the marquee attraction among linemen drills at 49ers training camp. This camp’s undercard is worth following, however. Williams’ fellow offensive linemen, after all, must be able to ensure the ever-precarious health of the 49ers’ quarterbacks. At right tackle, Colton McKivitz enters as the already appointed successor to Mike McGlinchey, who left in free agency for Denver (after a five-year term featuring great praise for run blocking and heaping criticism for pass-protection lapses). On the interior, guards Aaron Banks and Spencer Burford will flank center Jake Brendel for a second straight year, which bodes well for their chemistry. So, since the starters are all set, time to look elsewhere, right? Not so fast.Assuming all five first-string linemen – Williams, Banks, Brendel, Burford, McKivitz – make it through a season as 17-game starters is a stretch. Reserves must be schooled up to maintain the consist...Five-bedroom home in San Ramon sells for $2.7 million
