GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WLNS) -- Jim "The Shark" Dreyer had intended to complete his "Silver Sequel" swim across Lake Michigan this summer to mark 25 years since his first swim across the Great Lake, but - twice - lake conditions were a bit too brutal."It was a 25-hour beatdown, but I did not call for rescue," the 60-year-old from Grand Haven said of his Labor Day attempt at the swim, in a news release Sept. 9. "Lake Michigan landed a flurry of punches, but I can take a punch and I was still in the fight."Dreyer's first attempt this year was on Aug. 1, during which he aborted the quest 10 miles east of Milwaukee when worsening lake conditions had swept him and his escort boat 2.3 miles off course. DUGWAY, Utah (KTVX) - A 30-minute drive into the remote Dugway Proving Grounds is a patch of desert that is expecting a unique package drop. A package that has taken 7 years to deliver.This package, rather than coming from FedEx or UPS, is coming from a near-Earth asteroid named Bennu and is being delivered by the spacecraft OSIRIS-Rex. The package is a large space capsule that holds a sample container filled with regolith (loose rocks and soil) from the asteroid’s surface.The spacecraft OSIRIS-REx—Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer—was launched on September 8, 2016, and headed out into the asteroid belt seeking to meet up with and explore Bennu. The trip to Bennu took a year and a half, and once there, the spacecraft studied the asteroid and took photos. It then landed on the asteroid for approximately 5 seconds before pushing off and snapping a few more photos. ST. LOUIS COUNTY – Police responded to a child being shot on Saturday, September 9, at 6 p.m. The child, a two-year-old African American, was taken to an area hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to the hand.A preliminary investigation suggests that the incident occurred in North St. Louis. The victim's mother reported hearing gunfire as they were walking up the steps to a residence. She noticed her daughter's hand was injured and immediately drove her to an area hospital for treatment. LOUIS COUNTY – Police responded to a carjacking on Saturday around 4:20 p.m. The victim, a 30-year-old white male, was sitting in his parked vehicle when two African American suspects entered through the rear driver's side door. One of the suspects held a black firearm to the victim's head and demanded that he "Go."The victim exited the vehicle, allowing the second suspect to take the driver's seat, and the suspects fled in the victim's 2004 silver Honda Pilot.
