INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been ruled out of Los Angeles’ game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday due to a finger injury that occurred late in the second quarter. The only other quarterback on the Chargers’ roster is Easton Stick, who had played two NFL snaps in five seasons with Los Angeles before he replaced the Bolts’ franchise quarterback against Denver. The Chargers trailed 10-0 at halftime.Herbert was 9 of 17 for 96 yards with an interception before being injured, apparently while he was taken down awkwardly by Denver’s Zach Allen after throwing a pass. Herbert had been sacked four times and hit six times during the Chargers’ first six possessions, with his teammates repeatedly missing their blocks against Denver’s pass rushers.Herbert, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft, has been famously durable in his career. He fractured the middle finger on his left hand late in the third quarter of a game aga...

Aidan Hutchinson makes a pair of glaring mistakes as the Lions’ defense struggles again

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 05:57:50 GMT

CHICAGO (AP) — Aidan Hutchinson was a big factor as the Detroit Lions jumped out to a fast start this season. That seems like a long time ago at the moment — for Hutchinson and the rest of Detroit’s slumping defense. The NFC North-leading Lions surrendered 18 unanswered points in the second half of a 28-13 loss to the last-place Chicago Bears on Sunday. Hutchinson jumped offside on a key play at the end of the third quarter, and then played a role in another Bears touchdown early in the fourth.Once a trendy Super Bowl pick, Detroit (9-4) dropped to 4-3 in its last seven games. It has allowed 28.7 points per game during the tough stretch.“I feel like we kind of lost our swagger and our confidence,” said defensive end John Cominsky, who had one of Detroit’s three sacks against Chicago. “When we played with that swagger and that confidence and guys are loose, I think that’s when we were playing our best ball.“So that’s got to be a point of emphasis, to have ...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson overcame a sluggish start, some big hits and a week of criticism and controversy by responding with the type of impressive performance the New York Jets have long been expecting.Wilson threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes in his return from a two-game benching, New York shut down C.J. Stroud before Houston’s star rookie quarterback left late with a concussion and the Jets ended a five-game losing streak with a 30-6 victory over the Texans on Sunday.“Winning is always fun and that’s what we want right there,” Wilson said. “That’s what we want every game to look like.”Wilson was 27 of 36 for 301 yards — his third career game of 300 or more yards — after sitting in favor of the since-waived Tim Boyle. And that came despite Wilson facing consistent pressure all game and being sacked four times.“The second half, I thought Zach probably played the best game of his career,” coach Robert Saleh said. “I thought he was outstan...

As Israel continues its aerial assault in Gaza, many in South Florida are raising their voices in support in a different fashion. An installation on display at Art Basel this weekend served as inspiration for another type of message. In front of a globe — a representation of the world — inside the Miami Beach Convention Center, organizers on Sunday staged what they called a pro-Israel flash mob.“Each individual bought a ticket, just like any other participant in Art Basel,” said organizer Karin Lang, “so they were observing the art, they were participating in the exhibition, and so, it wasn’t a group entrance and a group effort that came in to storm Art Basel.”The bloody terror attacks of Oct. 7 keep having an impact around the globe. For many, the fact that Hamas terrorists ambushed hundreds of people attending a concert was especially heartbreaking.“They took out a horrific attack on a music festival that was a festival for peace,̶...
