Five people were rushed to the hospital after a gunfire erupted at a gathering in Pomona on Friday night. According to the Pomona Police Department, calls of a multi-victim shooting came in shortly before 10:45 p.m. near San Lorenzo Street and East First Street. Officers arrived at the location to find a large party, and upon further investigation, learned that at least one suspect fired multiple shots into the crowd. Homeboy Industries, the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world, kicked off their 14th annual 5K run in downtown L.A. on Saturday morning. KTLA 5’s Wendy Burch was live from Chinatown at the event’s starting line, where an estimated 5,000 participants were gearing up to run for a good cause. “I’m running to support a very important and spiritual part of this community,” one runner said. The organization, which was founded by Father Greg Boyle, has provided training and support to former gang members and previously incarcerated people in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years. Federal transit regulators blasted the MBTA Friday for violating an order prohibiting the use of lone workers on tracks put in place last week, and threatened to take away federal funding if the agency does not get its act together.In a letter to MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng obtained by the Herald, Federal Transit Administration Chief Safety Officer Joe DeLorenzo said regulators found the MBTA directed a lone MBTA employee onto tracks to assist a disabled train Wednesday, which “constitutes a direct violation of FTA’s” Sept. 14 restriction.A special order issued by the MBTA the same morning permitting the use of lone workers in emergency situations also crossed the FTA’s restriction, DeLorenzo wrote in the letter.
