Metro Transit decides to extend final New Year’s Eve train service past midnight

After taking a gander at passenger demand, Metro Transit is extending its New Year’s Eve light-rail schedule so the final trains of the night leave downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis past midnight.The schedule had initially called for the final light-rail departures of 2023 to roll out around 11:15 p.m. from the downtown St. Paul Union Depot and Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.Under a new schedule announced Saturday evening, the last westbound Green Line train will leave Union Depot at 12:30 a.m., and the last eastbound Green Line train will leave Target Field at the same time.The northbound Blue Line will leave the Mall of America Station at 12:09 a.m., and the southbound Blue Line will leave Target Field at 12:30 a.m.In addition, there are 19 bus routes that offer service after midnight.After 6 p.m. Sunday, rides on all bus and train routes will be offered free to passengers as part of the Miller Lite Free Ride promotion.More information is online at metrotransi...Family mourns St. Paul man at intersection where he, his dog were killed

Friends and family of Steve Wirtz, a St. Paul man who was struck and killed while crossing a street darkened by copper wire theft, held a candlelight vigil for him Saturday evening at the intersection where he died.Wirtz, 64, and his 2-year-old German shepherd, Gunther, were killed shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday — Christmas Eve — while they were out for a quick walk in their North End neighborhood.The 45-year-old driver who hit Wirtz and Gunther cooperated with authorities at the scene. Newly released bodycam footage depicts the moment a woman armed with a kitchen knife was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy. The video, which was made public by the department on Friday, shows deputies responding to an apartment building in the 2100 block of East Avenue J-8 in Lancaster on Dec. 4 regarding a domestic violence call. (FOX40.COM) -- A man was arrested after he claimed to shoot his wife on accident during an investigation of a "noise in the middle of the night." Around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials said they received a "frantic 911 call" from a man who said he accidentally shot his wife. Upon arrival to their home on Mira Del Rio Drive, deputies detained the husband. San Pablo woman killed suspected package thief, police say Deputies said they entered the residence and found his wife in the master bedroom with a gunshot wound in her shoulder. The victim was reportedly conscious and alert. She was transported to the hospital.Officials said there were no witnesses located in the residence.
