Santa Barbara man arrested for punching stroller-pushing grandfather in Calabasas One day after security camera footage showed a man sucker-punch another man who was pushing his infant grandchild in a stroller in Calabasas on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they arrested the attacker in Oxnard.The victim, a man in his 60s, called the LASD Tuesday evening to report the incident, which happened in the 4000 block of Lost Spring Road, a spokesperson confirmed. Attack on stroller-pushing Calabasas grandfather could be racially motivated, LASD says A man who allegedly attacked a grandfather who was walking his infant grandchild in a stroller in Calabasas on Tuesday may have been motivated by racism.Angel Sanchez Jr. of Santa Barbara was arrested in Oxnard Wednesday in connection with the attack on a 60-year-old man of Asian-American/Pacific Islander descent, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.Sanchez also allegedly attacked a boy who is also of Asian descent, officials said. This is the safest of California's 16 largest counties With a 59% decrease in the overall crime rate over the last 28 years, according to a recent report, Ventura County has been named the safest large county in all of California.  The 2023 State of the Region Report, which used data compiled by the California Department of Justice, measured crimes reported per 1,000 residents in the state’s 16 largest counties along with the crime rate over time. Crimes in the report were divided into two categories, violent crimes such as homicide, rape, assault and robbery, and property crimes such as theft, burglary and arson.  The nearly 60% decrease in the overall crime rate occurred between 1994 and 2022, but the report also noted that the 2022 crime rate in Ventura County was the lowest in the county’s modern history.  (Courtesy: Ventura County Civic Alliance)“This doesn’t happen by accident, Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in a news release put out by the Ventura County Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee....

Suspect arrested for strangling victim in Santa Monica A suspect was arrested in Santa Monica after police found him allegedly strangling another man on Friday.The suspect was identified as Tamarquis Isiah Burke, 31, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Burke is believed to be a transient.On Dec. 1, officers responded to reports of an assault on the 200 block of Palisades Park around 8:55 a.m.Arriving officers found Burke “actively strangling” another man at the scene. The victim, who is also a homeless person, was heard pleading for help as police ran towards him.Burke eventually released the victim and was taken into custody. Witnesses told police the violent attack appeared to be unprovoked.The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted homicide. He is being held on $2.25 million bail.The case remains under investigation. Minor shot in South Gate was killed by another juvenile, Sheriff's Department says A juvenile who was fatally shot in South Gate on Thursday was killed by another minor, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.The victim, who was not identified due to their age, was shot in the 3100 block of Wisconsin Avenue a few minutes before 9:15 p.m., the LASD said in a news release. That minor, who had been shot in the torso, was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
